schlo checkers released

The newest installment of the schlo series: schlo checkers has been released! On April 18th, of all days!

This project is quite unique in comparison to other schlo works that have come out so far in a couple different respects.

It's the first "game" sort of schlo project, but it's not really a game. In the early phases of its development, I planned to create an actual interactive game using a game engine and what not. However, I'm still not really good enough at coding to create something like that and most likely never will be. After trying all of the "easy to learn" game engines with no luck, I decided to create a web-based game-like text adventure. Having to write dialogue for each individual move possible got tiresome quickly, which is why the game can come across as rather cheap. Try playing against Skye (the first match I wrote) to get a sense of what the project was originally going to be like. This is intended to be an experience that relies on aesthetics.

Schlo checkers is also unique because it's the first schlo project using pixel art. (I finally splurged on a drawing tablet with a screen! So expect the art in future schlo projects to seem more hand-drawn instead of mouse-drawn.)

There's not much to say for this one. Development for it began in December and finished in March. I could have kept working on it longer, but felt that the version available for play served the purpose of the project well. I waited to release it on 4/18 because I've wanted to release something on this date for the past 2 years and just have not been ready for it! Play Schlo: Final Stand if you want to know why 4/18 is an important schlo date. It's my best work!

After releasing schlo pink and purple in August, I worked on its sequel until December. Due to creative differences with the chosen protagonist, I could not finish such a project and had to move onto something else filler-y. Schlo checkers was inspired by mahjong games, I liked them a lot at the time and wanted to make something similar. For future schlo plans, I have a few projects in mind. It's not good to share ideas too early.

Thanks for reading this.
